Toolroom Shift Lead - Lakeville

Summary: Assumes responsibility for appropriate processes and personnel to ensure timely completion of tooling by employees on shift. Monitors that customer standards are met in producing parts and ensures the productivity of employees on shift. Assists other departments as needed. Communicates with other shifts and shift leaders in Toolroom to ensure the pace of high priority work is maintained.
Essential Functions: This position is responsible for the following tasks, duties and responsibilities:
1. Maintains department resources to assure tooling for production is maintained, adapting to immediate needs and monitors completion. With this system, assists the Production and/or Quality departments in addressing any problems with dies, tooling, dimensional issues, trouble shooting or setup.
2. Creates work orders for potentially problematic dies. Seeks solutions to resolve any issues, utilizing available resources.
3. Assumes responsibility of the jobs on shift, working with Tooling Scheduler and report information in order to accomplish timely completion of workload.
4. Communicates with other lead personnel in the Toolroom to maintain a clean, orderly shop, taking responsibility for setting the standards to be met and maintained.
5. Assists in conducting employee performance evaluations, assuming responsibility to monitor important goals critical for an employee’s development.
6. With the assistance of the Toolroom Supervisor, assumes responsibility for holding employees accountable for inappropriate behavior along with marginal job performance.
7. Sets example for others to follow in keeping with the BTD mission statement, culture and performance expectations.
8. Understands and supports decisions and direction of the Toolroom—fully embracing those decisions and then inspiring others to follow.
9. Addresses employees’ issues, requests and concerns.
10. Recognizes the talents and abilities in employees, in order to utilize those talents—encouraging people to perform to the best of their abilities.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job. The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.
• Graduation from high school (or equivalent) plus two years of technical tooling training.
• Minimum four (4) years’ directly related experience.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIRED: At least two years of recent BTD Manufacturing related tool and die and/or design experience and total of three years in metal stamping, metal fabrication environment, which includes the following skills and abilities:
1. Strong working knowledge of the tooling process and machining equipment.
2. Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in production tooling operations.
3. Must be able to plan, organize, coordinate and direct production tooling operations for their shifts.
4. Ability to supervise shift personnel in an effective manner.
5. Strong knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.
6. Strong problem solving skills related to tooling process.
7. Strong ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.
8. Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
