CNC Machinist

Washington, IL

Performs machine setups on Lathes and Mills to insure quality and the most efficient production process. Produces moderately difficult parts on assigned machine to strict tolerances. Performs and records quality assurance checks on parts to insure precise production. Makes offset adjustments and changes inserts when needed. Maintains accurate production reports. Cleans around machine to insure a safe work environment. Specialized to just CNC lathes or just CNC Mills.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to perform the following tasks, duties and responsibilities:
• Performing simple modular machine setups as required on CNC lathes and/or CNC Mills with little or no help.
• Runs CNC Lathe and/or CNC Mill with little direction.
• Makes offsets and changes inserts with no direction.
• Able to read and edit CNC programs.
• Working knowledge of necessary tooling to produce parts on first time run.
• Ability to identify cause of tool failure and take appropriate corrective action.
• Performs all duties in the most cost efficient and cost effective manner.
• Improves efficiencies whenever practical.
• Operates assigned machine(s) and maintains production objectives.
• Inspects and keeps an accurate count of parts.
• Understands clamping procedures (the how and why of properly clamping a part)
• Performs measuring activities with precision measuring equipment in conjunction with machining operations.
• Cleans machine periodically to maintain proper operation.
• Accurately records labor hours and quantity of parts produced.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Performs all duties in a safe, efficient manner and observes all appropriate Company safety regulations.

5. Identifies improvement opportunities personally and for Miller Welding and produces a possible solution or plan.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job. The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.
• Graduation from high school plus completion of a two-year program in machining or equivalent on the job training. OJT must be 3 years or more.

Experience and Skills Required: At least two years of recent related machine shop experience which includes the following skills and abilities:
• Considerable knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in machining operations.
• Considerable knowledge of the manufacturing production process machines.
• Considerable knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.
• Considerable knowledge of basic measuring skills in a production environment.
• Ability to understand, follow and issue routine oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
